FG reportedly prevents Onnoghen from travelling, seizes passport

- The passport of Walter Onnoghen, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, has been reportedly seized

- An official of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) revealed this to newsmen on Saturday, December 14

- The NIS official said that Onnoghen was about to leave the country for Ghana with his family when his passport was seized by some personnel of the service

Emerging report from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) reveals that the passport of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has been seized reportedly based on the federal government's order to stop him from leaving the country.

According to Vanguard, a top official of NIS told journalists that Onnoghen was on his way to Ghana with his wife and daughter when his green passport was seized by men of the service.

The official disclosed that the order came from the presidency and that personnel of NIS were only following instructions, stating clearly that “Justice Onnoghen will have to meet with the presidency to know why his passport was seized."

The NIS official who chose to remain anonymous added: “On November 11, 2019, retired Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, was attempting to travel to Accra, Ghana. He was in company with his wife, Nkoyo, and daughter.

“His passport, with number A50445233, was flagged because Justice Onnoghen’s name was on the watch list. The passport is currently in custody of the NIS.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the appeal filed by Samuel Nwawka, the counsel to Onnoghen to determine the constitutionality or otherwise of his removal as CJN was on Monday, November 4, struck out by the Supreme Court.

Legit.ng gathered that the referral appeal was struck out by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who led five justices, after the appellant failed to appear and was not legally represented.
