War against terrorism: Nobody has abandoned you - Defence minister tells troops
- Defence minister, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has commended troops of the Nigerian Army for their commitment and the achievements recorded so far in the fight to end the insurgency
- The minister expressed confidence that the troops are capable of effectively prosecuting the anti-insurgency war; assuring them that they haven’t been abandoned
- Magashi further charged the troops to carry out their operations with utmost professionalism, loyalty and respect for human rights
The minister of defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has commended troops of the Nigerian Army for their commitment and the achievements recorded so far in the fight to end the insurgency.
A statement released by Col Sagir Musa, acting director, Army public relations, quoted the minister as assuring the troops of the support of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in the area of providing necessary logistics and platforms for the troops in the mission area to crush the insurgency soon.
Magashi said this during his maiden operational visit to the Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, where he was briefed by the theatre commander, Maj Gen OG Adeniyi on the state of the operation.
The minister said: “With the caliber of well trained, experienced and committed senior officers that I see here, I have no doubt that you are capable to effectively prosecute this war to the end.”
Following the briefing, Magashi was conducted on a tour of select locations at Magumeri, where he inspected the ongoing project at the Super Camp of the Special Forces Command in Chabbol and visited Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole in Gubio where he addressed the troops.
He said: "What we have now compared to 2015 is an indication that a lot has been achieved. I am here, on behalf of the president to let you know that we appreciate you and we are with you and nobody has abandoned you".
“I wish you successful operations so that in no distant time we will end this war."
He assured the troops of the government’s readiness to provide whatever is necessary to end the insurgency, stating: "We will give you the best and the best is expected from you.”
The minister and his entourage were accompanied by the chief of Army staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai, representatives of the chief of defence staff, chief of the naval staff and the chief of the air staff, as well as directors of Army and Air Force, Ministry of Defence, Dr Hassan Abdullahi and Peter Ashibel Utsu.
He further charged the troops to carry out their operations with utmost professionalism, loyalty and respect for human rights.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigeria Army had launched new operational strategies to wipe out Boko Haram insurgents from the north-east part of the country.
The general officer commanding 7 Division covering Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states, Brigadier General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim, said the new strategies introduced included the Super Camp, Response Areas with the ultimate aim of strangulating insurgents from economic activities as shown by intelligence.
