Dismissed soldier arrested for armed robbery in Kaduna

- A dismissed soldier identified as Lance Corporal Khalid Mohammed has been arrested for armed robbery

- The sacked soldier reportedly said he was sent away from the army because he shot his commander

- Mohammed, however, expressed remorse and said that he would turn a new leaf from crime

Lance Corporal Khalid Mohammed, a dismissed soldier, has been apprehended by men of the Kaduna state police command for armed robbery.

The suspect was paraded before the media with 78 others by the commissioner of police in the state, Ali Aji Janga, on Wednesday, August 7, The Nation reports.

Mohammed during the parade reportedly said that he was dismissed from the army because he shot his guard commander. He said he was arrested by the force after he robbed an apartment on Upper Volta road, Malali, in Kaduna.

The suspect also revealed that he has been in the crime since 2006 before he was caught by the police.

Mohammed, however, added that he regretted his actions and made a promise to change his ways, saying that he would accept whatsoever punishment he is given.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that an old generation bank in Iju-Itaogbolu in Akure North local government area of Ondo state was attacked by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.

The robbers numbering about six, stormed the bank on Tuesday afternoon, August 6, and started shooting sporadically. It was gathered that several staff of the bank and customers who came for transactions were attacked and injured by the suspected armed robbers.

A source reportedly said that the robbers forced their way into the bank and made away with huge amount of money.

"They have just attacked the bank in Iju-Itaogbolu and everybody is scampering for safety.

“I saw many people injured and I am also aware that they (robbers) killed some people whose identities I cannot ascertain at the moment,” the source reportedly submitted.
