Brad Pitt teaches American audience how to pronounce David Oyelowo’s Nigerian name

If there is one thing common to Africans and Nigerians in the diaspora is the difficulty their host nationalities have in pronouncing their native names.

This has been a recurring and disturbing decimal to Nigerian-born Hollywood actor, David Oyelowo. He has never been comfortable with the bastardization of his names which now comes in varying forms.

Oyelowo while on a TV show, Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, once said his dad was often mortified at the mispronunciation of their Yoruba surname.

But help has come the way of the Oyelowo's as Hollywood actor Brad Pitt took it upon himself to teach David's teaming fans how to pronounce his Yoruba surname, Oyelowo. He said:

"There is one lingering question at the back of your minds, and that is; how the hell you pronounce his name. It’s ok, it’s alright, I’ve been there before. And I’m here to help. So if you will say with me now, David Oyelowo."

And the audience said after him but still did not get it so Brad went on to say: "So in situations like this I found it helps to sing it. And the audience burst into laughter. He then burst into a song."
