- Nigeria will play Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in Group at the AFCON 2019 tournament

Gernot Rohr has revealed that players who did not have enough playing time at their clubs will play the friendly against Zimbabwe in Asaba.

These Super Eagles stars include the likes of of Leon Balogun and Kelechi Iheanacho who struggled with Brighton and Leicester City respectively.

And the German tactician is ready to start helping them work on their fitness ahead of the AFCON 2019 tournament.

Balogun only managed to played eight for Brighton in the Premier League, while Iheanacho started most of Leicester City’s games from the bench.

“I want to see a lot of players who are not playing so much, give them the opportunity to play,” Rohr told reporters after team’s evening training session in Asaba on Monday.

“It can be for some defenders like Balogun, he is fit but he didn’t play so much, so we want to see him playing on Saturday and also some players like Kelechi who didn’t play at all, so we want to see him play on Saturday”.

After the international friendly against the Warriors, the Nigerian team are expected to leave for Ismaila, Egypt, for the final lap of their preparations.

And will play Senegal in their last pre-tournament friendly slated for the Ismailia Stadium on June 16.

The three-time African champions will begin their AFCON 2019 campaign against Burundi on June 22, before taking on Guinea four days later at the Alexandria Stadium.

Then wrap up their group encounter against Madagascar, at the same venue, on June 30.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Confederation of African Football (CAF) have appointed former Nigeria internationals Kanu Nwankwo and Daniel Amokachi to play crucial roles in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The former Arsenal and Inter Milan attacker has been named as one of the five ambassadors alongside Samuel Eto’Fils, Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure for the tourney.
