Top NiMet official kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna highway

- Some gunmen reportedly attacked NiMet's general manager, Muntari Ibrahim, and abducted him

- Muntari was travelling along the Abuja-Kaduna highway when he was kidnapped by the armed gang

- His son confirmed the incident and gave details of how his father was abducted

Unknown gunmen have attacked and abducted the general manager in charge of public relations of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Muntari Ibrahim, popularly known as Muntari Kwai.

Ibrahim was said to have been kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

Daily Trust quoted his son, Ibrahim Muntari, as confirming the incident and saying it happened in the afternoon of Tuesday, April 2.

According to his son, the victim was returning to Abuja along with his brother, Tasi’u Isah, when the incident occurred.

Muntari's son said the kidnappers came with two cars. The first one blocked the front and forced his father’s official car, a Peugeot 408, to stop while the other was behind closed up on them.

“The gunmen shot in the air before whisking the victim away. They are yet to reach out to us,” he explained.

Legit.ng earlier reported that unknown gunmen reportedly attacked travellers on the Abuja-Kaduna road in the evening of Monday, April 1, with some passengers allegedly abducted by the assailants.

The incident, according to Premium Times, resulted in a standstill as fear gripped the travellers.

The report said the attackers also robbed travellers of their possessions and caused several crashes because they forced vehicles on high speed to stop abruptly.

It was learnt that the Nigerian Army later responded to the emergency as the security body dispatched about three truckloads of soldiers.
