Breaking: Narrow escape for Osinbajo as VP’s chopper crash-lands in Kabba

What would have been a national disaster was averted on Saturday, February 2, 2019, as the chopper of Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, crash-landed in Kabba, a town in Kogi state.

Osinbajo's spokesperson, Laolu Aknade, confirmed the incident, but said the vice president was safe and that no casualties were recorded.

"VP Osinbajo's chopper crash lands in Kabba, but he and the entire crew safe. He is continuing with his engagements and plans for the day in Kogi state," Akande posted on Twitter.

The incident was also confirmed by the vice president.

"All thanks and glory to God, the chopper we boarded today from Abuja just crash landed in Kabba, Kogi state, and the entire crew plus myself are all safe.

"We are continuing with our Next Level engagements and plans for Kogi state," he said with a video attached to the message.

To further confirm that Osinbajo and his team are, indeed, safe, Akande, added: "We give all the glory to God, our able protector, and commend all the flight crew officials for their service.

"We are marching on for indeed we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us!"

The spokesperson of the vice president also said his principal still went to Kabba and met with the monarch in charge of the town.

"We are extremely grateful to the Lord for preserving our lives from the incident that just happened. Everyone of us is safe and no one is maimed," he said.

The Kogi state government, while confirming the incident, announced that “the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, is safe after the challenge experienced during the landing of his helicopter at about 1.30 pm today in Kabba, Kogi state.

“The vice president and his campaign team, however, continued with their visit to the state and are currently engaging the people of Kogi West senatorial district at the Kabba township stadium.”

Legit.ng reported on Thursday, June 7, 2018, how a helicopter conveying Yemi Osibanjo from the Nigeria customs command and staff college, Gwagwalada, Abuja, was forced to make an emergency landing due to technical issues few seconds after take-off.

The near mishap occurred after Osinbajo had attended the graduation ceremony of senior division course 1/2018 participants at the customs college.
