Breaking: Suspected robbers allegedly attack bank in Osun state

Some gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly attacked a branch of a new generation bank located in Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun in Osun state.

The Punch, citing sources, reported that the bank raid reportedly occurred in the afternoon on Thursday, January 24. The newspaper stated that policemen and other security operatives were deployed to the scene of the said robbery to arrest the suspected criminals.

The Nation reports that robbers numbering about eight attacked the bank around 2pm, blasting the bank’s security door with an explosive substance.

The newspaper said the hoodlums who operated for more than one hour reportedly carted away a substantial amount of money before escaping a police task force that raced to the scene.

Eye witnesses said three persons, including police security, were feared killed by gunmen, while several other people suffered injuries from stray bullets.

In another report, the Rivers state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the kidnap of Anugbom Anuoha, the special adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on lands and survey by unknown gunmen in military uniform.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the development in a statement in Port Harcourt on Friday, January 18.

According to Omoni, the incident took place on Thursday at about 8.30pm at an unnamed hotel in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Meanwhile, Nigerian troops are reported to have killed 58 armed bandits in Zamfara state, but lost two soldiers in the operation, tagged Saharan Daji.

The operation took place at Dumburum and Gando forests of the state, the operation’s acting force Information officer, Major Clement Abiade’s statement said in Sokoto, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

He said the bandits were killed on 20 January, 2019, at Dumburum and Gando forests when the troops encountered them in a large gang armed with sophisticated firearms and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs).
