Moral Instruction: Nigerians react as Falz releases music album

Music is an art and form of expression. In the past, some Nigerian entertainers built quite a reputation for making socially conscious music as they often criticised the corrupt government of the country using their songs.

One musician who also doubled as an activist is the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who was bundled in and out of prison several times because of his songs.

In recent times, many musicians have started to infuse Afrobeat sound into their songs but they do not try to relate social messages in their lyrics. That is not the case for all of them however.

Talented Nigerian singer, actor and lawyer Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana, is one musician who has proven not to follow the bandwagon. He has made music in the past that brought important issues to the fore and he even faced some heat for it.

The singer dropped his fourth studio album on January 15, 2019, titled Moral Instruction and it includes songs such as Talk, Follow Follow, Johnny, Brother’s Keeper, to name a few.

One noticeable feature of the album is how Falz sang about issues bordering on corruption, police brutality, illegal practices among other things. It is no doubt that he got his inspiration from the late Fela who was also known for making socially conscious music.

Many Nigerians took to their Twitter handles to share their various opinions about his latest body of work. See some reactions below:
