2 candidates cannot use same phone number - JAMB

- JAMB has said no two candidates can use the same phone number for 2019 UTME registration

- Candidates have been advised to ensure that no other person had used that telephone number for that purpose to avoid creating issues for themselves

- In the case of a missing telephone line, the board suggests that it is safer to get a fresh telephone number for that purpose and not a ‘welcome back'

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday, January 11, warned prospective candidates to adhere strictly to the registration procedure for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to avoid creating issues for themselves.

The board’s head, and media and information officer, Fabian Benjamin, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

NAN reports that registration of candidates for the 2019 UTME started nationwide on Thursday, January 10, in more than 700 accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres.

According to Benjamin, all candidates desirous of registering for the the examination therefore must ensure that he or she start of by sending their full names (surname first) to the code provided by the board.

In doing this, candidates must ensure that no other person had used that telephone number for that purpose.

He said: “No two persons must use a single GSM number in commencing the registration process as it will not be acceptable. The way it is configured is one individual to one telephone number that will remain exclusive to that single individual for the purpose of the entire examination process.

“Not even siblings are allowed to share a particular telephone number for this purpose.

“For instance, if candidate A used a telephone number to send his name to the code in the past, candidate B, who is a sibling to A cannot use that number for that purpose again. But candidate A, who probably might not have been able to pass the examination, can still use that particular line again to send his name to that code whenever the need arises."

In the case of a missing telephone line, he suggested that it would be safe to get a fresh telephone number for the purpose and not a ‘welcome back’ to send to the code for the candidate’s profile number.

He further said: “No two persons can share a telephone number for the purpose of confidentiality. As a rule, it has always been one person to a telephone number to get a profile number that will enable candidates do the proper registration and capturing.

Legit.ng earlier reported that JAMB had started selling the 2019 UTME forms. The announcement was made via the verified Twitter account of the exams body through a number of tweets.

Candidates were advised to create a profile by sending their name (Surname, First-name, and Middle-name) via SMS to 55019. They were further instructed not to proceed to CBT centre without first creating a profile.
