President Buhari replies wife, others on ‘cabal’ allegation

- President Buhari has reacted to the allegations that some powerful cabals have hijacked his government

- The president challenged those making the allegations to substantiate their claims

- Recall that the first lady, Aisha Buhari, has also made repeated claims about some cabals in his husband’s administration

President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to the allegation of Aisha, his wife, and others that his government is being frustrated by some powerful people popularly referred to as ‘cabal’.

The wife of the president has, on several occasions, said a few people are frustrating the president's effort to perform and grow the nation beyond how he met it.

Speaking at a leadership summit in Abuja earlier in the month, Aisha allegedly challenged Nigerians to fight the “two or three people who have dominated this government”.

“Our votes were 15.4 million in the last elections and after that only for us to be dominated by two people… this is totally unacceptable,” TheCable quoted the president’s wife to have said.

“If 15.4 million people can bring in a government and only for the government to be dominated by two people or three people, where are the men of Nigeria? Where are the Nigerian men? What are you doing? Instead of them to come together and fight them, they keep visiting them one after the other licking their shoes (I’m sorry to use those words).”

In an interview with the Voice of America (Hausa service), President Buhari reacted to the allegation.

“Have you heard of the word cabal? People have been alleging that there are some few people in charge of this administration, that you are not the one in charge. Even your wife said something about this recently, what do you have to say about this?” the journalist reportedly asked him.

Translating the interview which was conducted in Hausa, The Cable reports that President Buhari responded to the question, saying:

“That’s her business… This shows I am a real democrat… What they are saying is different from what is happening. They should come out and say those things they feel was staged managed by the cabal. What the cabal force me to do. They should mention just one thing.”

The president challenged others making the allegations that a cabal is in charge of his government to substantiate their claims.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has sent warm greetings to Nigerians, particularly Christians, as they celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 25.

“I felicitate with all Nigerians, particularly our Christian brothers and sisters, on the joyous occasion of this year’s Christmas, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ,” he wrote.

The president, however, acknowledged that 2018 was a year of mixed blessings. While he joyously stated that Nigeria “has made significant progress since coming out from recession and our faithful implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan”, he also lamented that the country witnessed “so many unnecessary deaths caused by violent clashes between neighbours, who ordinarily should complement and support one another”.
