Killings: Buhari should visit Zamfara before campaigning in Akwa Ibom - Shehu Sani

In the wake of the recent violence that claimed dozens of lives in Zamfara state, Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to embark on a condolence visit to the state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that suspected armed bandits on Wednesday, December 19, stormed three communities in Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state, killing many residents.

Some of those killed were working on their farms when they were attacked. Sources who witnessed the ugly incident said the armed bandits came heavily armed and opened fire on the farmers who were harvesting sweet potatoes at Garin Haladu community.

A resident said that “the armed bandits came around 1 o’clock noon and opened fire on some youth harvesting sweet potatoes at Garin Haladu community and killed ten people. They came back in the evening and ransacked some villages around.”

Following the attack, President Buhari ordered the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Baba Sadiq to proceed to Zamfara and Sokoto states on Tuesday, December 25 and Wednesday, December 26, to assess the level of killings and damages done in the areas by armed bandits.

The president in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said the Air Chief would spend the Christmas and boxing days in the two states.

However, Senator Sani believed the president should not only order the Air Chief to visit Zamfara but personally go to the state himself to condole with the people before embarking on his trip to Akwa Ibom state to flag off his presidential campaign.

“The President should visit Zamfara to commiserate and condole, before Akwa Ibom to rally; and I believe he will, hopefully,” the senator tweeted.
