Kogi government to pay NYSC members N5,000 extra monthly allowance - Aide

Governor Yahaya Bello has promised youth corps members posted to the state N10,000 each for transport fare, and another N5,000 on a monthly basis

Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, on Monday, August 13, promised National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state N10,000 each for transport fare, and another N5,000 on a monthly basis.

It was learnt that the N10,000 is a one-time lump sum payment, while the N5,000 will be for the entire service year on a monthly basis.

Bello made this known at the Asaya NYSC orientation camp, Kabba, during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the 2018 Batch B corps members.

Gbenga Olorunpomi, the governor's senior special assistant on electronic media, who tweeted the information on Monday, August 13, said Bello also announced a personal donation of N5m to the family of an NYSC director who died on Sunday night, August 12.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade, increased the monthly allowance of NYSC members serving in the state from N3,100 to N5,000.

Ayade made the announcement at the closing ceremony for the 2018 `Batch B’ orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra local government area of the state.

The governor, represented by the commissioner for youth and sports, Asu Okang, said the upward review became necessary following the high cost of goods and services in the country.

According to him, the increase will spur corps members in the state to give in their best in service and community development.
