Breaking: Governor Ahmed of Kwara dumps APC

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state has announced his defection from the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dr Muyideen Akorede, senior special assistant on media and communications to the Kwara state governor disclosed this in statement made available to Legit.ng on Tuesday, July 31.

The governor said he arrived at the decision to quit the ruling party after wide consultations with his people and to heed calls of major stakeholders in Kwara state.

Going further, Governor Ahmed disclosed that the ruling APC could no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people.

"Following due consultations with the people and in response to calls by major stakeholder groups in the state, Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed today defected to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), having realized that the All Progressive Congress (APC) can longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people," he said.

Ahmed's defection came shortly after Senate president, Bukola Saraki announced his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the ruling party is expecting to welcome seven senators set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party.
