PDP welcomes Ortom, urges others to return home

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warmly welcomed Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state back to its fold and urged all its members in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to return back “home” and salvage the nation.

Channel TV reports the PDP, in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, hailed Governor Ortom for showing patriotic courage and boldness in these times of brazen dictatorship.

The part said: “The return of the governor to PDP confirms the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari’s led-administration and the APC do not have the welfare of Nigerians at heart, as they have continually offer flimsy excuses over the mindless killings that have caused untold sorrows across the country, particularly, Benue state.

“PDP recalls that the Buhari-led federal government has failed in its basic responsibility of protecting live, property, territorial integrity of our nation.

“Painfully, Nigerians are being killed in Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, nearly on daily basis.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Governor Samuel Ortom officially announced his resignation from the APC.

The governor made the announcement at the Government House, Makurdi, hours after some Benue youths blocked his convoy, preventing him from visiting APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in Abuja.

There have been insinuations that the governor will quit the ruling party after he announced on Monday, July 16, that he has been sent out of the APC, and is currently exploring a new option to actualise his future ambition.

In a related development, Governor Samuel Ortom who resigned as a member of the state chapter of the ruling APC disclosed that he decided to take the action because the party continued to launch attacks on him.

Governor Ortom who on Wednesday, July 25 defected to the Peoples Democratic Party said 10 out of the 17 state lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC are ready to follow him to PDP.

The governor made the declaration of his defection during a meeting with local government chairmen and councillors at the new banquet hall of Government House, Makurdi.
