They are planning to humiliate members of PDP, NASS leadership - Ekweremadu accuses FG

- Ike Ekweremadu alleges that the leadership of the PDP is facing threats and smear campaign

Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy president of the Senate and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the federal government of planning to humiliate members of the opposition political organization.

Ekweremadu, who spoke on Monday, June 18, in Akure, the capital of Ondo state claimed that the executive arm of government had concluded all arrangements to humiliate and intimidate members of the PDP and leadership of the National Assembly ahead of the 2019 general election.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Ekweremadu, who led members of his party to a political rally in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state, said: “The leaders including all of us are facing persecutions, smear campaign and threat.

“I want to tell you that this is our darkest hour in our country and the darkest part of the night is when it is almost dawn.

“Let everybody exercises patience, we are democrats and we are going to win in a democratic way. So, we are almost in the daylight.

“We want to appeal to everybody that we are democratic and we are going to win in a democratic way.

“We eschew bitterness; we eschew any kind of violence so that our winning will be in PDP way which is peaceful.

“So, the success of PDP next year will start in Ekiti by July. We are going to ensure we win in Ekiti State.

“We thank the Southwest because they are leading to this success, after that of Ekiti, we will win Osun state and after Osun by 2019 we will be winning all the way.”

Ekweremadu added: “We thank you for standing by us. We understand that one of our leaders, who we have an opportunity to be a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, we have the opportunity to be the governor of this state and made him chairman of PDP governor’s forum, today out of threat he left us.

“Those who are unfaithful will never last long I want to assure you that. Like a smoke, he has left us and now we can see clearly.

“We can see those who are gentlemen and those we can depend on to salvage our country.

“I want to assure those of you that are still with us that you will never regret your staying back in the party.”

Speaking also, the chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Clement Faboyede, said the defection of Olusegun Mimiko would not stop the strength of the party in the state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ike Ekweremadu assured Nigerians who lost their jobs since 2015 that the Peoples Democratic Party would ensure the jobs are restored.

Ekweremadu also assured that Nigeria would become a better place should the PDP take over power in 2019.
