2019: We demand apology from Buhari in exchange for our votes - Ndigbo
- A southeast group, Igbo Zuru Mee, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to the Igbos for the massacre of their people in the 1966 civil war in exchange for votes come 2019 election
- The group also asked the president to give the sum of N100 billion as compensation to all southeastern states
- In addition to these, Igbo Zuru Mee demanded that the president should declare May 30 as a national holiday in honour of all those that died during the civil war
Igbo Zuru Mee, a southeastern socio-cultural association, has said the Ndigbo will withdraw its support for President Muhammadu Buhari's 2019 presidential ambition, until he tenders an apology to them, Daily Trust reports.

Igbo Zuru Mee stated that the well-deserved apology to the Ndigbo was “for the pogrom of 1966 and the civil war that claimed thousands of Igbo.”
Furthermore, as compensation, the group said the president should give each of the five south eastern states the sum of N100 billion and also declare May 30 as a national holiday to honour the victims of the civil war.
Chief Goddy Ike, the convener of the organisation, told newsmen in Owerri, Imo state capital, that such gesture would kick-start the end of all forms of agitations in the region.
Ike said: “The war ended in 1970 but Ndigbo have continued to bear the brunt of that unfortunate incident. Worse is that we lost thousands of our comrades.

“If Buhari offers apology today, you will see that there will be no MASSOB, IPOB or any other form of agitation. The ghost of 1966 and 1970 will be buried just as we have now buried the ghost of June 12 by the honour done to MKO Abiola and the other dramatis personae of the that election saga.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Senator Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of southern senators forum, had urged the academic circle in the southeast geo-political zone to prepare a working document for politicians from the area to push for the position of president in the 2023 elections.
During his speech as a guest lecturer at the 14th Eni Njoku memorial lecture in Nsukka on Monday, June 5, the senator said that the academia should carry out a research into the candidates campaigning for the 2019 presidency and come up with reliable person who is willing to go for only one term.
