- Adebayo Shittu has written a letter to the national leadership of the APC
- Shittu urged the national leadership to check the activities of the governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi
- According to him, Ajimobi has cost the party dearly with his undemocratic actions
The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been called upon by the minister of communication, Adebayo Shittu, to help stop what he described as “undemocratic happenings in the Oyo state chapter’’ of the party.
The minister made the appeal in a letter entitled, Appeal to Save the Soul of APC, Oyo state chapter, Leadership reports.
Legit.ng notes that Shittu alleged that Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has cost the party dearly with his undemocratic actions.
He said: "You may wish to recall that Governor Ajimobi won his re-election bid In 2015 on the platform of our dear party in 2015 making him the first governor to win a re-election bid since the creation of Oyo state in 1976.
"This feat was made possible by the unity of purpose, commitment and resilience on the part of members of the party who cooperated and campaigned vigorously across the nooks and crannies of the state, for him."
According to Shittu, rather than allow the wishes of the majority to prevail, the governor is imposing his will on the party without due consultation with party members, elders and stakeholders.
"Furthermore, in his despotic desperation for power, the governor has in some instances shown preference for non-members of the party for the purpose of occupying key positions in government. A case in mind is the election of a new speaker for the state House of Assembly following the unfortunate demise of the former speaker, Rt Hon Michael Adeyemo on 27 April, 2018," he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Adebayo Shittu escalated the feud between him and Governor Abiola Ajimobi, after he alleged that the incumbent governor of Oyo was afraid of his governorship aspiration.
The minister of communication disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, May 8, shortly after a closed door meeting with John Odigie Oyegun, the APC's national chairman.
