UNILAG calls for memoranda on sexual harassment case

- Authorities of the University of Lagos have set up a panel to investigate the alleged sexual harassment case between a male lecturer and female student

- The panel has asked all those with information on the matter to submit memoranda in sealed envelopes, to aid investigation

- Authorities say the decision is in line with UNILAG’s zero tolerance policy for allegations of this nature

A fact-finding panel has been set up by authorities of the University of Lagos, to investigate the alleged sexual harassment case involving a lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies at the institution, and a female student.

The development was made public in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, June 8; which was signed by the principal assistant registrar, communications unit, Taiwo Oloyede, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the panel has called for memoranda from students and staff of the institution, as well as members of the public.

The panel requests that all those with useful information on the allegation and any other one, to address the memoranda to the 'Secretary, Fact Finding Panel on the Allegation of Sexual Harassment involving a Lecturer in the University, c/o Registrar’s Office'.

They have been requested to submit the memoranda in sealed envelopes to the 5th Floor, Senate Building, University of Lagos, between June 11 and 15.

The panel has promised that the confidentiality of respondents would be maintained. According to the institution, its decision is in line with its zero tolerance policy for allegations of this nature.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that barely one month after Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun state was embroiled in a sex-for-marks scandal, a female student of the University of Lagos cried out, lamenting the series of sexual molestation she had allegedly suffered from one of her lecturers.

The lecturer at the center of the sexual allegation was identified as Olusegun Awonusi, a professor of English Studies in the institution and former vice-chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun state.

The female student, whose identity has not yet been revealed, claimed to have nude pictures of the alleged randy professor. She said she had been suffering sexual molestation from the lecturer for months.
