Police in Ghana arrest 50 Nigerians for Yahoo Yahoo, robbery (photos)

- Operatives of the police intelligence directorate in Ghana have arrested about 50 Nigerians suspected to be cyber criminals

- Among the exhibits retrieved by the police were 46 laptops, mobile phones and some electronic gadgets

- Director-General in-charge of the Police Intelligence Directorate, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno revealed that the suspects planned their attacks from several rented apartments

Not less than 50 Nigerians suspected to be cyber criminals and armed robbers at Kasoa and its environs have been arrested by operatives of the police intelligence directorate.

Among the exhibits retrieved from the suspects and displayed by the security officials were 46 laptops, mobile phones and several electronic gadgets, YabaLeftonline reports.

The police revealed that the raid was conducted based on intelligence received from residents, who complained of the growing rate of crime in the area.

The suspects, made up of 49 men and a female, allegedly rented several apartments as venues where they strategise for their attack.

The director-general in-charge of the police intelligence directorate, commissioner of police (COP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, told newsmen that operatives from the unit carried out the raid in Gomoa Budumburam.

Yohuno said about 20 suspects were arrested in the first apartment, a two-bedroom facility. He said: “During the arrest, most of the suspects were busy on their laptops while the others were sleeping.” Yohuno said the exhibits would be sent to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Police CID for more investigations.

He further remarked: “We are currently screening them for varying criminal offences, including cyber related crimes and robberies after which they would be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for residence status investigations.”

Yohuno revealed that 21 out of the 46 suspected Nigerians who were arrested in a similar exercise recently at Amanfrom, were to be repatriated by the Ghana immigration service for illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a suspected “Yahoo-Yahoo” boy identified as Mukoro Ovie reportedly went crazy and stabbed himself to death with a broken bottle in Orumala Street, Ughelli, Delta state, on Thursday, May 31.

The deceased had carried out the act at the Oteri town hall in Ughelli North council area where he had run to after his mother who took him to a church in the community for prayers following his strange behavior some days before the incident.
