2019: Obasanjo only thinks for himself, not Nigeria - Kalu

- A former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, seems to have an eternal disdain for former president Olusegun Obasanjo

- Uzor-Kalu and Obasanjo were always at loggerheads while both were leading Abia and Nigeria respectively

- Now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kalu says the former president is a self-centered individual

A former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor-Kalu has taken a swipe at former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, stating that he only has his personal interest at heart and not the interest of Nigerians.

Kalu said this on Channels Television Programme, Sunday Politics on May 27, adding that anything involving the former president is not good for Nigeria.

“People don’t know. Obasanjo is only thinking for himself, he is not thinking about matters of Nigeria. I know him better than Nigerians know him. I know him very well, he has a lot of things under his table. Anything that involves Obasanjo is not good for Nigeria. He just wants everything to be done by him,” Uzor-Kalu said in response to Obasanjo's new political movement ahead of the 2019 general elections.

While responding to questions on allegations that corruption fight by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is a witch-hunt, especially as many believed that charges against him were dropped after he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC, Kalu denied the allegation.

He said: “I have never been one (witch-hunted). It was former president Obasanjo that made me to be one. I went to Abia to serve my people with all amount of sincerity. Even the PDP Obasanjo run as president, if it’s a company, myself and few others will own 90% of it. I gave him the first N500 million in 1998.”

Kalu stressed that Obasanjo if the need be should be probed by the Buhari-led administration.

According to him, those who are calling others corrupt, dine amidst corruption.

“If Obasanjo’s government deserves to be probed, he should be probed. I don’t see anything wrong in probing any government that has taken Nigeria’s people money. The money does not belong to Buhari. The money belongs to Nigerian people.

“There was a huge corruption not only under Obasanjo’s government in terms of power…I wrote him a letter telling him … when he said all governors are corrupt, I said except me that all people who are talking about corruption that the corruption is under his table in Aso rock," he concluded.

The BCO chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Engrineer Markus Gundiri, blamed the APC as a party for getting entangled in internal crisis in a pre-election year.

“The APC has gone into so many problems, I don't know why. But we are going to campaign for him (Buhari) for the primaries and for his re-election. Don't get tired, there are so many things we need to do. We need to mobilise and reach out to all the voting units of this country,” he said.
