Saraki vs IGP Idris: It is surely politics - Senate leader speaks after meeting with President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to take appropriate action in the rift between Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris.

Daily Trust reports that the president’s position was revealed by the Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan, who led the delegation to meet with him.

Saraki had raised alarm on the floor of the House, accusing Idris of trying to frame him after some arrested cultists in Kwara state were transferred to Abuja.

Lawan said the president listened to their talk and promised to take appropriate action.

Asked what the issue between Saraki and Idris was, the Senate said it was about politics. He said: "Of course, it is. You don’t need to be told, it is surely politics."

Legit.ng had reported that President Buhari is reportedly meeting inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa with members of the Nigerian Senate who were delegated by their colleagues to discuss over the alleged issues between Ibrahim Idris and Bukola Saraki.

Premium Times reports that the nine-member committee was set up recently after Saraki raised an allegation that Idris was planning to frame him in the handling of some suspects arrested in Kwara.

According to the report, Saraki told his colleagues that Idris transferred the suspects undergoing interrogation from Kwara to Abuja saying this was aimed to make statements that would implicate him.

The police warned Saraki but confirmed that the suspects were actually transferred.

The members meeting with the president include Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan; chief whip, Olusola Adeyeye; minority leader, Godswill Akpabio; Danjuma Goje; Sam Anyanwu; Aliyu Wammako; Fatima Raji-Rasaki; and Oluremi Tinubu.
