Information reaching Legit.ng from Enugu indicates that thugs have allegedly snatched the materials meant for the congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
According to a party source who chose to remain anonymous, the incident was masterminded by the zonal vice chairman of the party, Emma Eneukwu.
Legit.ng can however, not verify this information at the moment.
Many prominent members of the party are said to be worried over the incident as this may mar the outcome of the congress which is expected to hold later today, May 5.
Eneukwu has been accused of sabotaging the popular will of party members by imposing chieftians allegedly loyal to him. Also, other party faithful have been allegedly prevented from obtaining forms for any of the positions available for contest.
The minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, had chaired a stakeholders meeting on Friday, May 4, with Senator Ken Nnamani, former Senate president; Barrister Juliet Ibekaku Nwagwu and special adviser to the president on justice reform to ensure peace. They advised Eneukwu and the congress committee led by Ikye Odikpo to desist from doing anything that will destroy the integrity of APC in Enugu state and in the south-east zone.
The meeting ended with stakeholders vowing to hold parallel congresses across the wards if the materials are not released and party guidelines are followed strictly.
Following today's incident, there are now fears that the party may have two congresses in the state.
The ruling party fixed Saturday, May 5, for the ward congress while it fixed the local government area (LGA) and state congresses for May 12 and May 19 respectively.
Some state are already experiencing violence ahead pf the congress. One person died in Port Harcourt on Friday, May 4, as unidentified persons, suspected to be political thugs vandalised the secretariat of the APC located at the Old Government Residential Area in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The Rivers command of the Nigerian Police quickly intervened by deploying tear-gas to stop further destruction of the party’s secretariat. Gun shots were fired into the air to scare riotous members and in the process one death was recorded.
