Imo traditional rulers endorse Buhari for 2019 presidency

- Imo monarchs have thrown their weight behind President Buhari's second term bid

- According to the monarchs, Buhari has shown commitment to ensuring a common good for all Nigerians

- They also urged the president to support an Igbo presidential bid come 2023

Traditional rulers in Imo state have endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for his second term 2019 re-election bid.

The monarchs made the decision during a meeting at the Okigwe local government area of the state, Vanguard reports.

In a communique read by His Royal Majesty Eze Oliver Ohanwe, the monarchs said President Buhari has remained selfless since becoming Nigeria's president in 2015. He said the president has also shown commitment to ensuring a common good for all Nigerians.

He said all the traditional rulers are convinced that the policies and templates of development already laid down by the president since 2015 would bring rapid development across Nigeria.

Ohanwe said: “We thank the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari for his selfless and dedicated service to the nation, his commitment to ensure common good for all and his unwavering drive for the peace, unity and progress of the country.

“We are completely convinced that the policies and templates of development already laid down by the president in the last three years was based on critical thinking, careful and strategic planning and would catalyse rapid national development in his second term. The president was essentially elected on the firm promise to tackle corruption and security.

“This administration has given a lot of fillip to these noble agenda. With the president’s grit and strategic support to the relevant institutions, corruption in our national life has practically reduced by more than 75%."

Ohanwe also added that President Buhari has justified the mandate handed over to him in 2015.

Calling on all Imo people to support the president's second term bid, Ohanwe said with President Buhari, the dignity of Nigeria will soon be restored. He further urged the president to support the emergence of an Igbo President come 2023.

“He has justified the huge magnitude of the mandate freely given to him in 2015 which cut across ethnic, religious and even partisan lines, having a clear message which is no escape from change and has restored the dignity of our country.

“Buhari has put the economy on the part of sustainable growth, revitalized our ailing institutions and strengthened resolve and determination to ensure that change has really come.”

“Were the entire members of the Council of Ndi Eze, with our citizens, alongside the overwhelming majority of Nigerians completely align ourselves with the President’s patriotic response to the various calls to seek re-election in 2019," Ohanwe added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that a former vice president of Nigeria who is also seeking to run for presidency in 2019 has promised to restructure the country in six month if elected.

Atiku Abubakar speaking at the Chatham House on Wednesday, April 25, said restructuring Nigeria is possible.

The former vice president also said that as a president, he expect the Nigerian populace to hold their leaders, including at the state and local government level accountable.
