  • Find motivation. If you decide to put yourself through this hard time, you must at least have a very good reason for it. Decide why you are doing this in the first place. Visualize your goal, and that will make preparing for exams so much easier.
  • Begin preparing early. Do not leave it all for the last few weeks (or God forbid, days!). If you are taking this whole exam business seriously, you need to start studying early and slowly work towards your goal. That way, you will not have to try to cram all the knowledge inside your head during the last moments.

  • Create a study plan. Making a study plan is just as important as having a general goal. With a proper plan, you will have a set of small goals that can help you keep track of your progress and see the results. Without a plan, you risk forgetting about important things or procrastinating.
  • Focus on your weaknesses. While it is important to prepare for everything, focus on your weakest points first. Read up on something you have trouble understanding or on things you might have missed in class.
  • Understand the format of every subject on the exams. The success of your exams depends on whether you know what to expect from them beforehand. When you have at least a general idea of what is waiting for you, you will spend less time frantically trying to figure out the layout of your exam paper and more time on actually focusing on the task at hand. You should use test exams and exams from previous years to acquaint yourself with the format of the exams.

  • Know the syllabus for WAEC examinations. There is a possibility that your teachers do not cover some of the topics required for WAEC/WASSCE. That is why you need to know exactly what is expected of you. LarnEDU has a comprehensive list of WAEC syllabus for any subject, so we recommend you to check it out by following this link.
  • Read wide. Your first priority, of course, should be learning everything that is on the syllabus. However, if you see that you have some time left before the exams, read up on some extracurricular material. WAEC often likes to put in some trial questions that are not included in the syllabus, so your extra reading might come in handy.
  • Believe in yourself. This might sound a little stupid, but believing in yourself actually helps you. When you have no faith in your abilities, you are just setting yourself up for failure. If you study hard and know what is expected of you, there should be no room for doubt in your heart.
break
  • Have a break every once in a while. When you try to cram your brain with too much information at once, it might ‘short-circuit’, and you will not be able to remember anything. To avoid that, take at least small breaks between your study sessions. It will be good for you, we promise.
  • Take good care of yourself. Getting enough sleep, eating properly and exercising can do wonders for your cognitive functions. If you neglect your health and general well being, your body might shut down at the most inopportune moment.

If you follow these simple tips, you should be able to pass your exams in flying colours! So go ahead and start preparing for your WAEC examination today. Good luck!
