Governor El-Rufai adopts children of late education commissioner, Prof Andrew Nok

- Governor El-Rufai has announced to adopt the children, of late Kaduna state commissioner of Education, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok

- The Kaduna state government will sponsor the education of the three children up to PhD level

- The governor also said one of the state’s secondary schools and an health institution would be named after the late professor of Biochemistry

Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Friday, December 1, announced his resolve to adopt the three children, of the late Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok.

Legit.ng gathered that the Kaduna state governor, speaking at a valedictory executive session held in honour of the late Professor said the state government will sponsor education of the three children of the late commissioner up to Phd level.

Governor El-Rufai also said that one of the state’s secondary schools and an health institution would be named after the late professor who served as the state's commissioner for health and human services and later commissioner for education.

The governor who broke down while speaking about his over 40 years of friendship with the late Professor and the indelible marks he left behind as a Commissioner, said a campus of the Kaduna State Polytechnic will be sited in Nok, the hometown of the late Professor Andrew Jonathan Nok.

Legit.ng previously reported that the Kaduna state commissioner of education, Prof Andrew Jonathan Nok died in the early hours of Tuesday, November 21, after a brief illness.

The late commissioner was a professor of Biochemistry at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who won the NLNG prize for identifying the gene responsible for the enzyme which causes sleeping sickness (trypanosomiasis) in 2009.

Acknowledged in the science community for his contributions, Professor Nok won the Alexander Humboldt prize in 2013 for his research into finding a cure for trypanosomiasis.

Nok in 2010 won Nigeria’s highest academic honour, the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) in the science category.
