Arewa Oct 1 quit notice: Nigeria is sitting on keg of gunpowder - group

- An apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), has reacted to Arewa October 1 quit notice threat and the Biafra agitation

- YCE decried that the quit notice by the Arewa Youths and the call for Biafra by IPOB are the reflection of political thermometer and temperature in Nigeria

- The group however said Nigerians are sitting on a keg of gunpowder because no part of the country except the South West is at peace

An apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) said Nigerians are sitting on a keg of gunpowder because of the quit notice threat and the agitation for state of Biafra.

YCE on Wednesday, July 26, made this known after the 19th executive members meeting which took place in Ibadan, Oyo state, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Kunle Olajide, the secretary general of the council said: “We are sitting on a keg of gunpowder because no part of the country except the South West is at peace and that peace in the South West is a peace of the graveyard.

''We have the largest number of unemployed graduates and our infrastructures have collapsed. As far as YCE is concerned, the quit notice by the Arewa Youths and the call for Biafra by IPOB are a reflection of political thermometer and temperature of Nigeria. It shows there is uneasiness in every part of this nation.

“If Arewa youths could go to Arewa House to give ultimatum, then you should know they have the backing of some of their leaders.''

The group however reacted to the rejection of the review of the constitution by some Northerners, saying that since Nigeria is practicing democracy system of government therefor everybody has freedom of expression.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Chief Bisi Akande called for the replacement of the 1999 constitution saying it would not help the country progress but will rather lead to its disintegration.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in a statement made in Osogbo on Tuesday, July 25 said the replacement should be temporal till a new constitution is put in place.
