Osinbajo confirms FG working to allow state police across Nigeria
- The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has declared the federal government's intention to commence the implementation of community policing
- Osinbajo said the plan may be implemented very soon so that activities of police can be more effective in the remote parts of the country
- The acting president was represented by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser to the president on political matters at a book launch in Abuja
After years of rejecting, Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has confirmed that the federal government is working to allow state police across Nigeria.
New Telegraph reports that Osinbajo in Abuja on Tuesday, July 4, said the aim of the community policing is to sanitize the remote part of the country.

Osinbajo spoke at the launch of a book, Law on Prevention and Detection of Crimes, written by the immediate past IGP, Dr. Solomon Arase.
Legit.ng gathered that the book launch, which took place at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, witnessed the presence of five retired IGPs namely: Messrs Aliyu Attah, Tafa Balogun, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonnaya Onovo.
It was learnt that the Idris, did not attend event but he sent the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of Operations, Joshak Habila, to represent him.
Also, Osinbajo was said to be represented by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the special adviser to the president on political matters.
Ojudu said: “One topic that is very dear to the heart of the Acting President, is the issue of policing Nigeria. He is looking very carefully at the issue of community policing.
“And for our brothers, who are retired as IGs, who are still very young and strong, you will have a role to play very soon.
“For us to depart from this old way of policing in our country, we also see if it can work, or if it is not working. We have to look at all parts of the world, how they are doing it.”
Osinbajo however, challenged the retired IGPs to be ready to offer their contribution upon commencement of the policy.
According to Arase, this book launch will be used to cater for the needs of children of the Police’s rank and file.
Arase said: “The logic is simple. You cannot give what you do not have. You cannot offer a professional law enforcement service without knowledge, no matter the level of supporting motivational packages.
“Indeed, Your Excellency, modern law enforcement functions are no longer defined by numbers, but by knowledge.

“The aggregation of these will aid a law enforcement officer in dissecting, anticipating, and developing informed proactive or reactive strategies towards not just crime management, but towards performing their roles within the criminal justice delivery chain.”
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan among others.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the rate of kidnapping dropped following the arrest of Evans.
This was revealed by police spokesman Moshood Jimoh, who also added that the International Police (Interpol) was investigating Evans’ activities.
