- The Delta state police officer who was shot by unknown gunmen on Sunday night has died in hospital

The Ughelli Area Commander of the Delta state police command, Usman Ndanbabo, who was shot by gunmen on Sunday night May 7, 2017 has died at Lilly Hospital in Warri, Delta state.
Reports say he was shot twice at close range while he was driving alone at about 8pm in his Nissan SUV on Sunday.
He tried fleeing but his assailants opened fire on him, shooting him on the back and was left to die.
He was rushed to a hospital in Ughelli but was referred a private hospital in Warri where he reportedly died in Tuesday afternoon at about 3pm in the hospital.
Confirming the development, Delta state police public relations officer, Andrew Aniamaka, said: “Yes he has died, that is the sad news just reaching us. That is our lost.”

The death has thrown the police command in mourning, including the Ughelli area command where he was the area commander.
Ughelli community who felt his impact in the fight against crime is also thrown into mourning as criminals are ready to celebrate a field day following the death of the gallant officer.
In a condolence message to the state police command, Urhobo Progress Union, Youth wing led by Comrade Anthony Igho Ovie, and made available to Legit.ng, the youths commiserated with the Delta state police command over the death of the officer.

The youths described him as a great officer in the war against crime and criminality in Ughelli area of Delta state.
In a message signed by Comrade Kelly Efemena Umukoro, press secretary of the Urhobo wing of the UPU, the youths also said he was a gallant officer who brought peace and criminality to a standstill in Delta central area of the state.
