Shun calls for breakup – Lai Mohammed tells Nigerians

- The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, says Nigeria is too beautiful and great to disintegrate

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has called on Nigerians to shun the prediction that Nigeria will break.

Mohammed made the call on Tuesday, April 18, when he spoke as the chairman at Lagos State University, Ojo maiden discovery lecture, tagged: Can Nigeria survive another century as a corporate entity, delivered by Chief Joseph B. Oke,”

The minister who was represented by the director research and innovations, national universities commission, (NUC) by Dr Rahman Yusuf, said that the country is too beautiful and great to disintegrate.

“Everyone has a role to play in the unity of the country. As people predictions that Nigeria will disintegrate did not come to pass. We all have endeavour that Nigeria despite being a developing nation attains greatness,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, the south east forum has asked the federal government to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu to it for the elders to talk to him, and advise over the brewing agitation.

According to its convener, Dr Dozie Ikedife who made the disclosure to newsmen in Nnewi, Anambra state, this was one of the issues the forum discussed in its meeting in Enugu a couple of days ago.

Ikedife said the elders resolved that if the Federal Government could release Nnamdi Kanu and others held under the same circumstance to them, they would take up the responsibility to talk to Biafra agitators and advise them as elders.

He insisted that the elders saw it as justice denied to continue to hold Kanu and others in detention without either releasing them or giving them speedy trial.

He said there was nothing wrong for somebody to ask for his rights.'
