A 14-year-old boy in New York has an uncommon and genetic skin condition that causes his skin to blister and peel off even at the slightest touch.

John Dilgen suffers from epidermolysis bullosa, which has no known treatment as yet. He has to be covered in bandages constantly to prevent infections and skin dehydration.
His condition means that even family members must be careful when coming into contact with him because his skin will stick to a hand that touches it and peel off when the hand moves away.

The condition has eaten away parts of his feet and he has difficulty walking. He therefore relies on a wheelchair to move around.
Doctors are due to perform a new type of skin surgery on him with the aim of reducing his pain and grafting genetically modified skin onto his skin. This would hopefully increase the likelihood of him living a normal life.
