On 11 September, Senator Mike Lee took to X (formerly Twitter) to share what he described as the final text message he received from conservative activist Charlie Kirk before Kirk attended an event at Utah Valley University (UVU).
Lee posted the message with a note of sorrow, calling the moment “so tragic.”

The message, sent the day prior, read:
“Thank you so much. Just landed. Event I think is going to be a win.”
Lee wrote:
“This is Charlie’s last text to me yesterday as he was heading to his event at UVU So tragic.”
The post has since drawn attention online, with many expressing condolences and reflecting on Kirk’s influence in conservative circles.
Kirk, known for his role as founder of Turning Point USA, had been scheduled to speak at UVU, a public university in Orem, Utah. His final text suggested optimism about the event’s prospects.

How did Charlie Kirk die?
Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on 10 September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University during his American Comeback Tour.
The conservative activist, known for his close ties to President Donald Trump and his influence among young right-wing voters, was struck by a single bullet to the neck while responding to a question about gun violence.
The attack occurred in broad daylight, prompting immediate panic among attendees and a swift response from emergency services.
Authorities confirmed that the shot was fired from a campus building approximately 200 yards away.
Although two individuals were initially detained, both were later released, and the shooter remains unidentified.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the FBI released surveillance images of a man described as a “person of interest” in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University.
On Thursday, federal authorities unveiled grainy security camera footage showing a man dressed in a black long-sleeved T-shirt, dark sunglasses, and a baseball cap.
The individual, seen clenching his fists and ascending a stairway, appeared to be wearing a shirt emblazoned with an American flag and eagle motif. The FBI posted the images on X (formerly Twitter) on 10 September, urging the public to assist in identifying the man.
