
Federal High Court Of Nigeria
The Federal High Court of Nigeria (FHC) is a premier federal court established on April 13, 1973, originally known as the Federal Revenue Court.
It was renamed the Federal High Court by the 1979 Constitution to handle federal matters.
The court exercises exclusive jurisdiction over civil causes and matters listed in Section 251 of the 1999 Constitution, including taxation, banking, and intellectual property .
Structure and Leadership
The FHC comprises a Chief Judge and a number of judges appointed by the President on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, subject to Senate confirmation. Judges serve until the age of 70. As of 2021, the court had 75 judges across 36 judicial divisions nationwide.
Recent Developments
In 2024, the FHC introduced Practice Directions on the use of Electronic Affidavits (E-Affidavits) to modernize its operations and improve efficiency.
