Tambuwal's message to the defence minister

The ADC chieftain made this known in a statement posted on his X account @AWTambuwal on Friday, August 20, 2026.

The former governor said the delegation went to the meeting to put the concerns of affected communities directly before the minister.

"We conveyed the concerns of our people and stressed the urgent need for increased security presence, additional operational resources and sustained action to protect lives and property, and enable our people to pursue their livelihoods without fear."

The delegation also pushed for security agencies to maintain and deepen their operations across the affected areas so that residents can safely return to their farms, businesses and other daily routines without fear of attack.

Gen. Musa assured the delegation that the Federal Government remains committed to addressing the challenges, and pledged to provide extra resources and operational support to reinforce ongoing security efforts in the region.

Tambuwal welcomed the assurances but made clear that words must quickly give way to results on the ground.

"We appreciate these assurances and look forward to their swift translation into action on the ground."

Lakurawa attacks displace Sokoto communities

The visit comes against the backdrop of a worsening situation in the southern parts of Sokoto State, where communities have faced repeated attacks, killings and displacement blamed on suspected Lakurawa militants.

Kebbe LGA has been among the hardest hit, with residents abandoning their homes and farmlands amid fears for their safety.

In one of the more recent incidents, residents of the Ungushi community in Kebbe LGA were attacked, leaving scores of people dead.

The killings renewed calls for a stronger military presence and wider security deployments across rural communities in the area.

Tambuwal said he would keep engaging relevant authorities until the situation was resolved.

"The security and wellbeing of our people remain paramount. We will continue to engage all relevant authorities and pursue every necessary intervention until lasting peace and security are restored to our communities."
