Early Life and Education

Melaye attended Abdulaziz Attah Memorial College in Okene for his secondary education. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Geography in 2000.

During his university years, he was actively involved in student politics, serving as the Student Union Government President and later as a leader in the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

He also held positions as Secretary-General of the African Youth Council and the Commonwealth Youth Council.

In 2017, Melaye faced scrutiny over his academic credentials, particularly claims of degrees from Harvard University and the London School of Economics, which the institutions later allegedly refuted.

Political Career

Melaye's political journey began in 2007 when he was elected to the House of Representatives, representing the Kabba/Ijumu federal constituency. In 2015, he transitioned to the Senate, representing Kogi West Senatorial District.

Throughout his career, Melaye has been affiliated with both the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), often switching allegiances.

He was known for his active participation in legislative matters, sponsoring bills such as the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Kabba and advocating against lynching and extrajudicial executions.

His personal life has been subject to public scrutiny; he was married to Tokunbo Melaye for ten years, and they have three children.
