Bassey was even on the scoresheet as the Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against South Africa, a result that further rocked Nigeria’s chances of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With two games left, Nigeria currently have 11 points, six points behind Group C leaders South Africa, who also have a healthy goal difference.

Chukwueze and Bassey pick EPL greatest player

On return to Fulham, both Chukwueze and Bassey participated in a quickfire question by their club’s media team where they were asked who was the greatest ever Premier League player.

Chukwueze, who joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan on transfer deadline day, picked former Manchester United forward and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo as the Premier League’s greatest player.

On the other hand, Bassey picked two-time Premier League winner and former French captain Thierry Henry as his greatest EPL player.

Comparing Henry and Cristiano’s PL achievements

Both Henry and Cristiano transformed the English Premier League during their respective eras, but in very different ways.

Henry’s achievements in the Premier League are nothing short of breathtaking.

The Frenchman scored 24 or more goals in five consecutive seasons in the 2000s, a level of consistency that very few have ever matched, GiveMeSport reports.

In terms of team achievements, Henry also delivered. He won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Arsenal, including his unforgettable role in the famous “Invincibles” season of 2003/04.

His impact on English football created a legacy that is still celebrated today, cementing him as one of the all-time greats.

What did Cristiano achieve?

Cristiano, on the other hand, had a different journey. His early days at Manchester United were about raw potential and learning, but by his final three seasons, he exploded into one of the most feared forwards in the world.

He scored 66 Premier League goals across his last three campaigns of his first spell, spearheading Man United’s dominance and winning three consecutive league titles.

These achievements were crowned in 2007/08, when Ronaldo scored 31 league goals, won the Golden Boot, and lifted the Ballon d’Or, the first Premier League player in over a decade to claim the award, per Transfermarkt.

This marked his transition from promising winger to the world’s best player, paving the way for his record-breaking move to Real Madrid.

Even on his return in 2021 at the age of 36, Cristiano scored 18 league goals in 30 games, proving that his sharpness and eye for goal had not diminished.

Bassey delighted with first Super Eagles goal

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that Bassey has reacted after scoring his first goal for the national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against South Africa.

Bassey appeared to have headed home Bright Osayi-Samuel's cross, but video replays showed that he connected with his arm, but the officials missed.
