Kelechi Iheanacho has disclosed the rationale behind joining Scottish Premier League side Celtic a day after the official end of the summer transfer market, September 2.

The former Manchester United star agreed to join the most successful football club in Scotland as a free agent after he mutually parted ways with Sevilla.

The 28-year-old made a move to the La Liga giants as a free agent at the end of the 2023/24 English Premier League after seven successful seasons with Leicester City.

After failing to impress the Europa League experts, they decided to loan him to the EFL Championship side Middlesbrough under the guidance of former Manchester United player Michael Carrick in January.

Iheanacho explains the choice of Celtic

2023 AFCON runner-up Kelechi Iheanacho has shared why he opted for Scottish giants Celtic.

Speaking with Celtic's official website, the 28-year-old said his former manager, Brendan Rodgers, played a huge role in his decision.

The former Manchester City star promised to give his best to the Scottish Premier League champions. He said:

"He has been important to the growth of my career. Obviously he looked after me for a while when I was in Leicester City and gave me the opportunity to show my talent.
"He guided the team to win two trophies and I must say he is a good manager and got a great personality.
"I am happy to play for him again and to wear the colours of this great club."

The FIFA U17 World Cup winner scored a total of 43 goals, providing 25 assists in 143 matches under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, per Transfermarkt.

Celtic fans hostile towards Iheanacho

Legit.ng earlier reported that Celtic fans were hostile towards Kelechi Iheanacho after the club announced the signing of the Nigerian forward on social media.

The former Manchester City forward turned down the Scottish club before joining EFL Championship side Middlesbrough on loan in January.
