Pitch Invasion: Football Match Delayed As Bees Take Over Field, Video

City FC of Abuja beat Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi Sports Club of Zanzibar 2-1 at the Tanzanite Pre-Season International Tournament on Thursday afternoon, September 3.

The Citizens rallied with resilience, as Ezra Maren and Oscar Otu found the back of the net to secure a hard-fought win at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Babati.

City FC remain unbeaten in two matches in Tanzania and will face TDS FC on Saturday, September 6, where a win or draw will secure their advancement to the semifinals of this prestigious international tournament.

Bees invade pitch

A standout moment in the match, which has since gone viral, occurred when a swarm of bees invaded the pitch, forcing a brief suspension of play in the 77th minute.

According to City FC, the Players, referees, officials, including the camera operators, lie flat on the ground to avoid being stung.

The substitute player also took cover under the bench to avoid the wrath of the bees that descended onto the field of play, per talkSPORT.

Speaking in an exclusive comment with Legit.ng, the media officer of City FC, Emmanuel Moses, said the player did not sustain any form of injury during the incident, which was strange. Moses said:

"The bee invasion was kind of strange to us, because we have never witnessed such in Nigeria.
"However, we are thankful none of our players were hurt, it was a bittersweet experience."
