But in a recent interview, Plumptre has now set the record straight: that woman, she said, is not her mother, but rather a passionate fan she’s become close to over the years.

How they met in 2022

Plumptre revealed that she first met the woman and her two daughters during the 2022 WAFCON tournament, Ghana Naija Ballers reported.

The bond was sparked when she gifted one of the daughters her jersey after a match, a gesture that touched the family deeply. Since then, the relationship has grown beyond the pitch.

Plumptre explained that they stayed in touch via social media and have remained good friends.

So when the Super Falcons returned to the big stage in 2025, the family made the journey again to support the team, and Plumptre in particular.

“She’s not my mum, but she’s like family,” Plumptre shared.
“They’ve been so supportive of me and the team since the last tournament. It means a lot to have people like that cheering you on.”

Her bond with the family speaks to the kind of unity and admiration that transcends race, nationality, and even blood ties.

The woman’s emotional response to the final whistle was not just about a football match, it was about being part of something historic and meaningful.

For Plumptre and the entire Super Falcons squad, their victory in Rabat wasn’t just for Nigeria, it was for every supporter who believed in them.

With their record-extending 10th WAFCON title secured and personal stories like these coming to light, the Super Falcons’ victory is proving to be one for the ages, on and off the field.
