The Gunners had to play the rest of the remaining 40 minutes with a one-man short and were lucky to come out of the fixture without conceding.

And Mikel Arteta has come out to condemn Pepe's conduct claiming the 25-year-old's conduct at Elland Road was unacceptable.

Arsenal who once topped the league in the opening few matches of the new season are now struggling at the bottom half of the log.

The 25-year-old will now face a three-match ban ahead of the hectic December schedule of matches.

The clashes against Wolves, the north London derby with high-flying Tottenham and the trip to Burnley are three of the matches Pepe would miss for Arsenal before Christmas.

It is now left for Arteta to select if the Ivorian international will play in their Europa League clash away at Molde.
