Nigerian rower creates history at ongoing Rio Olympics

- Nigeria will compete in the semi-final of a rowing event in the Olympics 

- Chierika Ukogu has created history by becoming the first Nigeria to do so

Nigerian rower Chierika Ukogu has qualified for the semi-final of the Women’s Single Sculls rowing event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Ukogu who finished fifth in Quarterfinal 3 was initially knocked out but was later recalled to take part in the semifinal C/D 1 Nigerian.

The 24-year-old's event is on Friday, August 12, 5pm (Nigerian time).

Ukogu is the first Nigerian to represent the country in rowing describing how she would love to make Nigeria proud in the rowing event.

Ukogu is a graduate of Stanford University and trained with the US team before the Rio 2016 Olympics.
