This comes after leading United to a difficult start to the season and already finding themselves nine points behind Premier League leaders, Chelsea.

While the United hierarchy are still backing the Norwegian to turn things around, the Red Devils' upcoming matches have proved to be a cause for concern.

The fixtures include away trips to Villarreal and Chelsea as well as hosting rivals Arsenal at the start of December.

Metro UK reports there is every chance Solskjaer could be shown the door if his charges do not improve.

His departure will consequently pave way for the appointment of a replacement, with The Daily Star claiming United chiefs are increasingly confident of landing Rodgers as Ole's successor.

The Leicester boss is believed to be ticking many of the boxes United are looking for in a manager.

His performances against Liverpool and Man City in United's disastrous losses to both teams saw him court immense criticism, with Roy Keane, a United legend, suggesting the England international was "like a robot."
