Peter Obi's Ally Gives 1 Condition to ADC After Coalition Directive

Peter Obi's Ally Gives 1 Condition to ADC After Coalition Directive

  • Peter Obi's strong ally, Aisha Yesufu, has told the coalition's adopted party, ADC, to fix the zoning issue in the party
  • Aisha Yesufu's demand was a reaction to the ADC's directive that Peter Obi and other leaders should resign from their party and be fully committed to the coalition movement
  • Peter Obi's supporter's comment has started generating reactions from concerned Nigerians on social media

Aisha Yesufu, an ally of Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential hopeful, has given the coalition leaders and its adopted party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a condition before her preferred candidate can meet up with the party's deadline.

The leadership of the coalition during its last meeting in Abuja directed all its members and supporters to resign from their party and join the ADC. Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, was part of the opposition leaders at the endorsement of the ADC.

Peter Obi yet to resign from LP

However, the former presidential candidate had yet to resign from the Labour Party, as it appeared that the ADC ticket could go to the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and it was learnt that Obi was considering joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has zoned its ticket to the south.

Reacting to the directive of the ADC on its ultimatum, Aisha Yesufu said that the coalition must first zone its presidential ticket to the south before Peter Obi can resign from the Labour Party. She also compared the zoning to the federal character.

Nigerians react to ADC directive

However, Yesufu's position has started generating reactions from some Nigerians. Below are some of their reactions:

Dos Santos recalled that Yesufu once advocated against zoning and federal character:

"Madam, stand in one place. These were your tweets in 2015 and 2016 advocating against the ZONING and quota system."

Bashir Garba Sufyan reacted:

"Since Nigeria’s return to democracy, what tangible benefits has the zoning arrangement truly delivered? Besides, isn’t a southerner currently the President? Yet what measurable positive impact has his leadership made?
"Aisha, you and your principal must either demonstrate full commitment to this coalition or consider moving to the APC, where it is almost certain that the party will offer the ticket to the incumbent President, who’s a southerner. The success of the ADC does not depend on your presence. You don’t have to remain in the ADC for it to succeed."

Danjuma Sale aligned with Yesufu's position:

"I totally aligned with this submission. Any attempt to disrupt the current North/South rotation of the Presidency would spell doom for the Coalition. The north just lost power 2 years ago, and Atiku, in his characteristic style, wants to contest for the presidency. He has shown interest in contesting for that position in every election cycle since 1999."

Michael Adewuyi fingered a double standard:

"As much as I agree with this. Why did you guys not remember this in the Edo elections. That completely fractured Obidients unnecessarily, a real strategic error."

Carlo Gambino wrote:

"Can you stand by your own words? It's genuinely embarrassing seeing how you lot have been threatening everyone who is not sold on outrightly handing over the ticket to Peter Obi. Primary elections are part and parcel of the democratic process. You can't zone what you don't have."
