Jonathan stated this on Wednesday evening during a requiem mass held in Abuja in honour of the late Chief Audu Ogbeh.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Jonathan, Ikechukwu Eze.
The former president described Chief Ogbeh as a humble and forgiving individual who never held on to resentment.
Jonathan said Ogbeh’s characters are similar to his attitude to life.
Azibaola Robert, who is a cousin of Jonathan, shared the statement via his Facebook page on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
“Chief Ogbeh was a man who did not seek revenge. He believed the past should be left behind and that we must keep moving forward.
“In that sense, he was just like me. If you hurt me today, I will forgive you. I don’t carry grudges against people. I believe the past is past—and I move on.”
Legit.ng reports that Ogbeh was the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2015 to 2019 under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recalling his personal relationship with Ogbeh, he said:
“I didn’t know Chief Ogbeh until I became a deputy governor when he was serving as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). At that time, deputy governors were often seen as spare tyres, but he treated me as a close friend. Whenever I visited Abuja, I would go to see him, and we always had good conversations. He was such a kind and generous person.”
President Chakwera follows Jonathan’s lead
Recall that Jonathan's feet of conceding defeat before the official announcement of the presidential election were recreated by President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi.
President Chakwera conceded defeat in the September presidential election in the Southern African country when the electoral body had yet to announce official results.
The Malawian president, in a nationwide broadcast, expressed his commitment to a credible election in the country.
Jonathan's ex-aide shares why Peter Obi can never win
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Peter Obi recently criticised the Nigerian government following a birthday appeal made by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The presidential hopeful noted that the appeal, though well-intentioned, was a stark indictment of the state of governance in Nigeria.
However, the title of Obi's statement has prompted Reno Omokri to declare that he can never win any national election in Nigeria.
