2027 Election: Goodluck Jonathan's Former Aide Shares Why Peter Obi Can Never Win

  • Peter Obi recently criticised the Nigerian government following a birthday appeal made by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu
  • The presidential hopeful noted that the appeal, though well-intentioned, was a stark indictment of the state of governance in Nigeria
  • However, the title of Obi's statement has prompted Reno Omokri to declare that he 'can never win any national election in Nigeria'

FCT, Abuja - Ahead of the 2027 elections, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, September 23, asserted that it would be delusional for Peter Obi to believe he can still win a national election in Nigeria.

Legit.ng had reported how several Nigerians on social media criticised Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, over a controversial tweet.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, turned 65 on Sunday, September 21, and received congratulatory messages from many politicians.

In a tweet on Sunday night, September 21, Obi joined millions of Nigerians in wishing the First Lady a happy birthday. Before her birthday, the president's wife asked well-wishers to redirect their gifts towards the completion of the long-abandoned National Library project.

Reacting, the former Anambra state governor said, although the First Lady's call looks noble and selfless on the surface, "beneath it lies an indictment of our nation."

The presidential hopeful questioned why the First Lady should "beg for charity" to build the National Library, Abuja, which he called "the very temple of knowledge." However, Obi's "we are finished" choice of words was strongly fumed at by many Nigerians. A few commenters sided with him.

In July, Obi confirmed that he would contest for the office of the president in 2027.

Omokri tackles Obi again

Wading in after criticisms against the Labour Party chieftain, Omokri claimed the backlash showed Obi's presidential dream was over.

The critic wrote on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account:

"If Peter Obi reads the comments from his 'We Are Finished!' post and still thinks he can win any national election in Nigeria, then he is truly deluded. Nothing has turned Nigerians against Obi in recent times as that post. Whoever advised him to release it is either a fifth columnist within the Obidient movement or the most misguided person ever!"
