2027 Election: Will North Vote Against Tinubu? Top APC Chieftain Speaks

FCT, Abuja - Ahead of the 2027 election, Adeboye Adebayo, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has asserted that "no one zone can singlehandedly determine the outcome of a presidential contest in this country today".
As reported on Sunday, September 14, by The Punch, Adebayo stated that a northern presidential aspirant without strong southern acceptance and a national outlook will struggle to match President Bola Tinubu.

'Tinubu enjoys benefit of incumbency'
Legit.ng reports that some politicians have declared that the north will remove Tinubu in the 2027 election, citing alleged marginalisation of the region by the present government.
Many claimed that the region has been sidelined in critical policy decisions and project implementation despite what they called its significant electoral support for the president in the 2023 general election.
But Adebayo, the national director of media and publicity for the Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, expressed his belief that no southern presidential candidate will be at a disadvantage from the north. He argued that political history has shown that the northern electorate do not vote strictly on the basis of geography, but on the strength of track record, alliances, and the ability of a candidate to assure them of inclusion and development.
He explained:
“While a northern candidate may naturally enjoy initial sympathy in the region, winning the election is never automatic. Elections are, over time, decided by coalitions, partnerships, and collaboration across regions, and no one zone can singlehandedly determine the outcome of a presidential contest in this country today.
"A northern aspirant without strong southern acceptance and also, very importantly, a national outlook would struggle to match a sitting President like Bola Tinubu who already enjoys the benefit of incumbency, an entrenched party structure, and the confidence of northern political leaders who have worked with him over decades."
Furthermore, Adebayo maintained that although resentment may be loud in the public discourse among the elite on major media, it does not always reflect electoral reality.
He said:
“The north is pragmatic; they judge leaders on their ability to deliver security, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.”

2027 election: Cleric sounds alarm
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, warned President Tinubu against imposing the 5% fuel tax his administration is allegedly clamouring for.
Primate Ayodele stated that implementing the 5% fuel surcharge will affect the second term ambition chances of President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The cleric stated that the policy will be misinterpreted and if care is not taken, will be treated like the fuel subsidy removal, which 'will spike something unpleasant against the government'.
