The Danish government has confirmed that foreign nationals who hold a residence and work permit in Denmark are entitled to bring specific family members to live with them in the country.
According to guidance published by the Danish immigration authority, the permit covering accompanying family members applies to individuals who are already residing in Denmark for work or are in the process of relocating there.

Family members may apply for their residence permit at the same time the primary permit holder, referred to as the "sponsor," submits their own application.

The Danish government listed the following categories of people who can apply for a residence permit as accompanying family members:
- Spouses of the foreign worker.
- Registered partners.
- Cohabiting partners.
- Children under the age of 18 who are living at home.
The authority also noted that in extraordinary circumstances, relatives who fall outside these standard categories may still be considered for a residence permit, though this is treated as an exception rather than a routine option.
Denmark migration: Other family permit pathways
For family members of a person holding a Danish green card, the government said separate guidance is available covering the specific rules and requirements that apply to that category.
The Danish immigration authority advised that accompanying family members should submit their applications at the earliest opportunity, particularly if the sponsor is applying for their own permit at the same time, as this can help streamline the overall process.
