Ibadan crowns new Olubadan amid grand festivities

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, was among the earliest high-profile guests to touch down in Ibadan, underlining the national importance of the ceremony.

Oyo shuts major roads, schools

Oyo State authorities prepared extensively for the day. Roads leading to Mapo Hall, including Beere Junction and Born Photo Junction, were closed to traffic from early morning to ensure security and free movement of dignitaries.

Several schools in and around Ibadan suspended activities, giving residents the opportunity to join the celebrations.

Governor Seyi Makinde interrupted his annual leave to personally attend the event, signalling the political weight carried by Ladoja’s coronation.

The festivities began with the monarch’s visit to the kingmakers’ compound, Afobaje Labosinde, before he proceeded to Mapo Hall for the main ceremony.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, is set to host a landmark celebration as former governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja becomes the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
