Man Stabs His Grandparents to Death Over Food Disagreement

Kano state - The Kano state Police command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death during an argument over food at their residence in Kofar Dawanau Quarters, Dala Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that it occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, and was immediately reported to the Dala Divisional Headquarters.

Victims confirmed dead at hospital

According to the police, Ibrahim, believed to be under the influence of intoxicants, attacked his grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, 65, with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds.

“The victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel certified them dead on arrival,” Kiyawa stated.

The bodies were later released to family members for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, The Cable reported.

Police order full investigation

The commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, H0micide Section, for discreet investigation.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the police spokesperson assured.

The shocking incident comes amid growing concern about rising cases of violent crime within families in Kano state.

Furthermore, security experts and community leaders have linked such tragedies to drug abuse, mental health issues, and economic hardship that strain family relations, as reported by Vanguard.

Civil society groups (CSOs) have repeatedly warned that substance abuse among young people is fuelling aggression and domestic disputes, often leading to fatal outcomes.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how a boy was beaten to death for alleged cocoa pod picking in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West local government area of Ondo state. A man alleged that he beat the boy for stealing his cocoa illegally in the Alumni quarters in Akungba.

The victim was brought to the police station following the assault, where he was found lying unconscious at about 2:30 p.m. He was referred for immediate medical attention and hours afterward was certified dead. The state police public relations officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, reports that the police detectives have apprehended the suspect following the unfortunate occurrence.

He urged the citizens of Ondo state to desist from taking the law into their own hands Ayanlade revealed that the corpse of the victim had been deposited in the morgue in the hospital for autopsy. He went on that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Akure for a proper investigation. The police image maker assured the public that justice would be served.
