Legislators justify why Tinubu has to keep borrowing
In another story, House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen reiterated the house's backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's borrowing agenda, calling it a necessary tool to spur economic growth and poverty alleviation.
Talking to delegates at the 8th Annual African Network of Parliamentary Budget Offices Conference in Abuja on Monday, Abbas put aside rumors that the House was against the plan.

He explained that a recent speech by the House Leader to a West African Parliamentary Conference was "reported mischievously out of context" and given the wrong impression as deviating from the President's direction on fiscal matters.
"10th House and indeed the National Assembly have always thought that, in the context of development needs critical in nature, prudent and strategic borrowing is a vital fiscal tool.".
Just like any modern economy, Nigeria occasionally has to resort to borrowing to finance vital infrastructure, spur growth and shield vulnerable people. What is essential, and to which the President has pledged, is that all borrowing is well-targeted, transparent and sustainable, in line with Nigeria's Medium-Term Debt Strategy and accompanied by best international standards," Abbas explained.
Reps reaffirm confidence in Speaker Abbas
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Honourable Philip Agbese, rejected reports that lawmakers were plotting a confrontation with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, when the chamber reconvenes later this month.
He described such claims as speculative and an attempt to create disunity in the House. Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, September 2, Agbese said members remain solidly behind the leadership of Speaker Abbas and are satisfied with his style of administration.
